Still a mile away
Barking they sense the sea air
Pulling up, “We’re here!”
Looking down below
Off the cliffs and dusty dunes
They spot the ocean
Together they go
“Tag you’re it! Come and catch me!”
They hike their way down
With new friends and old
Bounding through fields of ice plant
Playing games of ball
Running at full speed
Through the waves across the shore
Soaked from head to toe
As summer sets
Sun shines as bright as ever
They bid their farewells
All tired and worn
They ride back home, close their eyes
“Farewell Fort Funston!”
